CREATING MORE THAN A COMPANY
Incredible true short facts about our company
Allergy Attack on the Express Way
Joseph Moore was driving on the express way going about
80. It was a beautiful spring day, when all of the sudden he
sneezed, then again. Within seconds he was sneezing uncontrollably and harder each time. Involutarily he couldn’t see.
Within seconds he had veered into the oncoming lane, which
happened to be occupied by a Semi. He jerked the wheel
trying to get out of the path of the truck and ended up in the
When he finally stopped sneezing he opened his eyes. “All I
could see was the particles floating in the Sunlight they were
everywhere.” he said. At that moment he realized his cars filtration system hadn’t done it’s job. “I was struck by the
thought that we filter everything, why not the air we breath?”
Joe vowed to find a solution
Mission to Save Lives
As research began he found shocking numbers regarding the
number of deaths caused by pollutants, airborne contaminants like viruses, colds, flus, allergies, bacteria, and chemicals. More heart attacks each year are caused by air pollution
than anything else COMBINED. While 50% of the US population suffers from allergies, they spend nearly $300 Billion
looking for a solution.
At that point this was more than a mission to protect against
the next allergy attack. It was a way to protect against many
Failure and Discovery
Over the next several months Joe became very familiar with
failure, but it didn’t stop him, he was determined to find a
solution. Then in 2007 he finally discovered the combination
that became the first external-use nasal air screen.
The Birth of a Company
Anyone familiar with starting a company understands the
analogy of giving birth to a company. Joe had poured his soul
into building a lasting company. It was painful but full of excitement, anticipation and happiness.
In 2008 First Defense Nasal Screens was born and began it’s
mission to provide a solution to discreetly filter out contaminants that threaten to harm or injure.
Protecting the Discovery
As the company grew it became important to protect the invention of the Nasal Screens. Joe and team began to rack up
the patents achieving patents within 172 countries
Swimming with the Sharks
In 2010 Joe received a call from ABC asking if he was interested in going on a new show Shark Tank. At that point the show
had only been on 1 season and was growing in popularity. Joe
decided to take the plunge and submit an audition tape.
The producers felt like First Defense Nasal Screens were exactly the type of product they were looking for and invited
Joe to be apart of the show.
Joe’s pitch was a hit, recieved the largest offer in TV history,
$4 million. However, Joe realized that his vision for First Defense Nasal Screens and the one of the sharks was very different and he turned them down.
First Defense Nasal Screens are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent diseases. They are only designed to reduce exposure to harmful and irritating particles and contaminates from being inhaled.
